Celebrating The Small Things:Week Twenty Seven

This week sees me celebrating much loved toys, birthday celebrations and the love of small businesses.

Lego – Lego has been the most played with and loved toy in our house for over fifteen years now. Those little bricks that clog up the hoover and create the most excruciating pain when trodden on can be a nightmare to tidy away but I love the way it keeps them occupied for hours and always them to use their imagination in a whole host of ways.

Birthday Celebrations – With Oscar starting school this September it has been so lovely to have already meet some lovely Mums and their new starters.

I feel so lucky that my children attend a school where it is so family oriented and such great friendship groups are build for the parents as much as the children.

This has allowed Oscar to celebrate a birthday of one of his new found friends and who is is so eager to start his school life with in the next few weeks.

Book Launches – Through my work I have had the opportunity to work with some absolutely amazing companies and this is just one of the many reasons I love my job.

I do however have a real passion for smaller businesses that are just starting out in this very competitive and crazy world of business.

So when I was asked along to cover the launch of the lovely Kate Bodell’s first book I was so happy to be able to be part of her journey.

Going along and seeing the love and support she had from her doting family and friends was so special and I was so happy to be part of this.

Cake Smash Time With Layrish Photography

I actually can’t believe its been a year since we welcomed Isla into the world and I became a Grandmother. I have to say that this time has passed even quicker than it did with my own children and because of that capturing and celebrating milestones is something of great importance to me.

When I was asked by Layrish Photography if we would like to take Isla along to a cake smash photoshoot to celebrate her first birthday both Alice and myself were extremely happy to go along.

Layrish Photography offer a whole range of photography sessions from weddings to birthday parties, cake smashes to family photoshoots and so much more. They take place at locations of your choice or for from the comfort of your own home.

Cake smashes are a relatively new concept to me and certainly something I was very happy to experience with Isla as a first for us both.

We were all made to feel at ease as soon as the session began and Isla was eased into the whole process by playing with some toys and chatting before the photography started.

With pretty balloons, bunting and bubbles to distract her attention the first few photos in her pretty dress were taken effortlessly before she became a little restless.

What better distraction could there be though than a quick change of clothes and the most beautiful cake being placed in front of you!

Isla (5)Isla (21)Isla (29)

A little hesitant a first she poked and prodded around for a while and then dived in…face first!

I wasn’t long before she got a real taste and was well away digging in with her hands and trusty wooden spoon.

Once she was sufficiently covered head to toe in cake it was time to wrap up the session and of course sample some of the cake ourselves…I mean it would be rude not to!

If you like the look of this session then I couldn’t recommend it enough for an experience that will stick in our mind for years to come and amazing image to look back over time and time again.

In fact the whole package is finished off beautifully as Layrish Photography send over a stunning case that comes with a handful of images all ready and printed out for you that are tied together with a pretty bow and covered with confetti along with the memory stick continuing all your photos that you can do exactly what you want with.

This was also accompanied with a slideshow that includes live footage of the cake smash that actually bought a tear to my eye when we received it, it was certainly a really lovely and unexpected addition.

It will certainly be a day to remember for us and I couldn’t recommend it more.

*we were given this session in exchange for this review and they are all my own, honest opinions.

Celebrating The Small Things:Week Thirteen

Writing these posts has certainly brought me to the realisation that my plans of being more organised this year have not been going to well as I am a fair few weeks behind with these posts!

I have however been good at noting down all my special moments and hope to get caught up very soon as I currently stuck in Easter!

Easter Egg Competition – Normally Frankie isn’t overly into crafts and it has to be something he is really interested in to keep him engaged, so it was lovely to see such enthusiasm when preparing his ‘Eggtopus’ for the school Easter competition.
He sadly wasn’t a winner this year but he had an amazing time taking part.

Family Fun At The Seaside – This year Izzy’s birthday fell on our trip to Dreamland for the Big Fish Little fish event which was an amazing day but a real highlight for me was watching the children’s excitement looking for shells and crabs in the rock pools is one of life’s simple pleasures that you can’t beat.

New Experiences For Me – As I get older my want and need to discover and enjoy new things has been growing immensely and I love any opportunity to try something different.
Over the past few years the blog has certainly made this possible and the other week I got the chance to made very own Dolly Mixtures which is something I’m not sure I would ever have done if it wasn’t for my work.

Now We Are Six:Happy Birthday Frankie

When I was one, I had just begun.
When I was two, I was nearly new.
When I was three, I was hardly me.
When I was four, I was not much more.
When I was five, I was just alive.
But now I am six, I’m as clever as clever.
So I think I’ll be six now forever and ever.

A.A. Milne

This was one of my favourite poems from my childhood and now as I’ve grown and become a mother I can relate to the words with each year that passes in my little ones lives and I have to agree that six is a pretty perfect age.

On frankie’s six birthday where his birthday request has simply been, ‘Lego and mussels’ I look on in wonder at the beautiful little boy he has become in those six short years.

He is certainly my most vibrant child that has a charater and tenacity that is heartwarming and alluring and his charming personality never fails to fill a room.

He is strong willed, determined and passionate and although this obviously comes with its challenges I wouldn’t change it for the world.

In fact it was his head strong ways that saw my big birthday plans of a trip to a Lego exhibition in town for him come crashing down when he insisted on a simple day of softplay with his little brother and a lunch of mussels to finish.

Celebrating The Small Things:Week One

When I first started blogging it was a subject I knew very little about, and to say that I went into it blindly would be an understatement; but through the encouragement of family and friends I began my blogging journey and haven’t looked back since.

Over the past few years my blog has gone from strength to strength, it has now become my full time job and has bought me and my family some of the most amazing opportunities and allowed us to meet some wonderful people…some of which I would now class as good friends.

My blog is a place that I come to when I want people to find out about a great day out we have been on, somewhere I can give advice on great new products I have tried out or to celebrate big milestones in our lives; but as the New Year sets in and we naturally evaluate the different parts of our lives I have realised there is one area I have really overlooked when it comes to writing…The Small Things.

There are so many small moments in our lives that we take for granted or miss all together, moments that although may seem small and insignificant they give us great pleasure and we should learn to cherish and show our gratitude for them all.

I have decided to now do a weekly post highlighting all those little moments that would normally pass me by as a document to look back on in years to come and remember fondly.

Brotherly love: When it comes to the youngest two its always been a bit of a love hate relationship, with the latter certainly being more predominant, so when a special moment such as Frankie requesting to take his little brother out to share his birthday treat is an occasion that should be marked.

Lego: This may seem like a strange one, but the wonderful world of Lego has bought us all so much joy since Christmas in many ways. It dominated the youngest two’s christmas lists this year but has brought the whole family such pleasure and brought us together for some much needed quality time as we all muck in trying to make the next creation.

Storytime: Its been more than a few years since Izzy has requested a bedtime story, and to be truthful its not very often she willingly picks up a book! So after buying her the fantastic Goodnight Stories For Rebel Girls it has been an absolute pleasure to see her engrossed in reading and sharing what she has learnt about a whole host of ‘kick arse’ women.

Living Arrows:2/52

This week for my living Arrows post I am sharing a few photos from our after school trip to the park.

It was number four’s 5th birthday at the weekend and he got a much longed for bike, but as we were to busy to get out with it we took a bit of time out after school for him to practice his skills.

Although time passes way to quickly and they all grow within the blink of an eye it is an absolute pleasure to watch them grow and build thier own individual characters.

I can honestly say the all five of mine are completely different and I wouldn’t  change that for the world…well maybe sometimes I would!

My Sunday Photo:A Rainy Royal Celebration

This weekend was not the best on the weather front for the many parties that went ahead to celebrate The Queen’s 90th birthday.

We all soldiered on down my Mum and Dad’s road and dashed in and out of houses as and when we needed.  Nothing brings people together more than trying to get out of the rain!

This is one of my favourite photos of the day that has me wondering if number five will ever remember this day in years to come!

A Thank You For Sticking With Me

At the end of February my blog turned a year.  In my usual unorganised fashion the date came and went and I did nothing to recognise this.

After a bit of a reflective day in which I have decided to get myself more organised I thought it would be fitting to take a look back on how my blog has progressed over the past year.

I started my blog mainly due to my lovely sister really.  I had a lot of interest through my personal Facebook with friends asking where best to go with the children and she said it would be worth setting up a blog as people seemed interested in what we get up to.

After some time I bit the bullet and wrote my first post.  The whole thing had to be set up by my sister and my son as I’m such a ‘techno phobe’ and to be honest I’m still running to them with even the simplest technical issue!

It wasn’t long before I got the bug, and to be honest I am now completely hooked – my Husband would definitely verify this.

I love everything about it.  The feedback you get when you publish a post, the wonderful blogging community I have come to know and love and the wonderful opportunities it has opened up to the whole family.

It has been an outlet for me to express my feelings good or bad and have the comfort of people sharing their opinions and advice with me.

I have met some wonderful fellow bloggers along the way and be it online or in person I would now class a good number of them friends that have all helped me out along the way.

We have been to many events as a family trying out new products and getting to enjoy some fabulous days out and trips away.  One of our favourites had to be Chessington World Of Adventure which we have been lucky enough to experience twice.
One of my first product reviews was with the wonderful ladies from Lara and Ollie.  I thought it would be fitting to work with them again and offer all of my lovely readers the opportunity to win one of their fabulous necklaces.  Please click below for your chance to win.

It does take up a huge amount of my time and the social media side of things really drags me in and it’s something that I need to rectify as it is a huge asset to my blog but also a massive time waster that I can’t seem to switch off from!

This said my hard work has paid off in many ways and I have managed to get into the top 100 in the Parent Bloggers Leaderboard and I’m currently ranking 226 in the Tots100 charts which has around 8000 blogs registered.

I hope that you will all continue reading and enjoying as much as I love writing and fingers crossed I will still be around to tell my tales next year!

Point And Shoot:Magical Moments

It was number four’s birthday this week and probably the highlight of his day was the fact that his Dad took a whole day off for him.

My husband works long hours so when he is around the children relish every moment with his biggest fan being number four.

He got a wonderful new gokart for his birthday and we took it up to our local aerodrome to try it out.  Whist we were there my husband and son clambered on top of the disused air raid shelters and with some wonderful lighting I managed to capture a few shots that I have fallen in love with as much as I love these two.
